STC Printing Services (updated 05-22-2006)

Beginning August 14, 2006, IUPUI (including the STC Locations) will begin charging a uniform printing fee of four cents ($0.04) per sheet side for black & white printing. The Print Management system in the STC computer labs requires you to use your JagTag to print. Money can be added to your card to cover anticipated printing costs using JagTag's online deposit utility, or by visiting one of the campus locations. For more information about Jagtag services, visit the Campus Card Services page at: http://jagtag.iupui.edu/.

STC Consultants are available in each lab location to offer technical assistance with this service.

Printing Guidelines To show courtesy for other patrons and ensure optimal condition of the printers, please follow these guidelines when printing in the Student Technology Centers:

  • Limit Printing to 50 pages at a time. This is intended to discourage long lines at the printer while users wait for large jobs to complete.
  • Do Not reuse paper in any printer. Reusing pre fused paper (paper that has been heated in a printer) can cause irreparable harm to a printer, even those designed for two-sided printing. Please use the recycle bins to discard of any unwanted output.
  • Do Not use special paper. Special paper such as resume paper, labels, transparencies or envelopes are prohibited from use in any Student Technology Center printers.
  • Printing from a Laptop. Students may print to a Student Technology Centers printer by adding the printer using the IU Print Locator Utility available on IUware.

Color Printing The Student Technology Centers offers color printing at the competitive price of $1.00 per page in the BS3000, IT131 and NU342 labs. To reduce the incident of error and to assure the file specifications are correct for the color printers, Consultants are on duty to assist with the setup and release of the output to be printed.

Paper Conservation The following tips will help you conserve paper when you're using the printers in the Student Technology Centers (STCs). Reducing the amount of paper you use helps lower university operating costs and conserves natural resources. Annually, nearly 15% of the paper used in STC printers ends up left behind as unwanted pages.

  • Use duplex printing (two-sided output) for lengthy material.
  • For presentations, print multiple pages per side.
  • Preview your document before sending it to the printer. Most applications in the STCs have a print preview feature that allows you to see how your document will appear when it's printed. This helps you catch any formatting errors before you print. It's also particularly useful when you're printing web pages, which are often much longer than they appear.
  • Use your application's spell checker to reduce mistakes.
  • Instead of printing draft copies of your work, only print the final copy.
  • Print only the pages you really need to print. Unneeded pages just end up in the wastebasket.
  • Instead of printing out eReserves, read them online whenever possible. Copying long eReserves to your computer to read later instead of printing them saves time and is more convenient than carrying around paper.
  • Be patient when sending print jobs to STC printers. Don't resend the same job multiple times if your output is delayed. Report the problem to the STC consultant.
